Delaware Park and the Rose Garden

Walking though parks with my soul mate is one of my favorite things to do. We have wandered through numerous parks; some in Lancaster, some in East Aurora and even some in New York City, but my favorite park is Delaware Park. There is so much to do here. You can walk through the rose garden, walk around Hoyt Lake, look at the statue of Abraham Lincoln and David and find lots of extraneous chives growing around the park. This park is stunning every time of the year. In the summer, it is picturesque and you can paddle around on the lake. In the fall all the leaves begin to change and the park is full of color. In the spring flowers are blooming and the Forsythia line the landscaping in bright yellow flowers.

I was at the park on the first day of fall and it was perfect. The roses were still blooming and smelled delightful and the temperature was perfect. We spent at least an hour taking photos of the roses. they were so vibrant in color that photos did not do the plants a justice. I spent a good five minutes with every flower trying different angles, brightness, and focuses.

After we got to know each rose bush, we went down to the lake and sat down to take in the possibly last nice day before the weather turns. As we were sitting, a Blue Heron came and landed right in front of us and posed for pictures. I’ve seen him before when I was at the Japanese Garden in the other section of the park but I have never seen this bird close up before. He was beautiful, pretty light blue feathers with small bright yellow eyes.

If you have been considering moving to the Buffalo area, an important thing to consider is the beauty of the seasons. The summer is very short so it is important to enjoy the season as much possible and really stop to smell the roses. Buffalo is full of potential as well as beautiful and historic parks and areas to explore.
